The center of Environmental Engineering and Chemical Safety (CEECS) was merged from 02 units: Center of Environmental Protection and Chemical Safety & Center of Environmental Analysis directly under the Vietnam Institute of Industrial Chemistry.

The predecessor of the Vietnam Institute of Industrial Chemistry is Laboratory of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, which was formed in 1955 from the laboratory of the Indochinese Mining Department. In 1956, when the Ministry of Industry and Trade was split into the Ministry of Industry and the Ministry of Trade, the laboratory became the Institute of Industrial Research of the Ministry of Industry. In 1957, the Institute was renamed to the Institute of Chemistry. In 1964, the Institute was merged with the Department of Chemistry of the State Committee of Science into the Institute of Chemical Research directly under the Ministry of Heavy Industry. In 1969, the Institute was renamed to the Institute of Chemical Industry.
In 1990, the Ministry of Heavy Industry decided to establish the Institute of Chemical Industry, according to the decision No. 232/QD- CNNg-TCNS, dated on July 10, 1990.
In 2007, according to the decision No 0366/QD-BCT, dated on August, 2007, the institute was renamed into the Vietnam Institute of Industrial Chemistry – a scientific and technological organization implementing the mechanism of the autonomy and self-responsibility according to institute model specified in the Government’s Decree No. 115/2005/ND-CP.
In order to improve the capacity of equipment, the center often innovates, improves and equips new accessories regularly. Beside that the center also coordinates with the National Key Laboratory of Petrochemical- a unit of Vietnam Institute of Industrial Chemistry- to exploit the existing equipments of the Institute effectively.
Along with the upgrading of research equipments, the center also attachs special importance to improve the qualifications of the staves to exploit and use equipments effectively and to develop every aspects of the center. Center always creates the most favorable conditions for staves to participate in training programs, workshops … in domestic as well as foreign countries to approach to new scientific and technological achievements of the world.
